GE Advanced Materials, Silicones hosted 23 students from Lansingbugh High School as part of its annual Groundhog Shadow Day on Thursday, February 17, 2005. The event was sponsored at GE Advanced Materials Silicones through Junior Achievement and the GE Waterford Chapter of the Elfun Society. The students and their business teachers, Marilyn Hart and Vicky Rovito arrived at the Waterford facility at 9:00am. The goal of Junior Achievement in Waterford is to introduce high school students to the company and give them a small taste of the working world. The days activities included an introduction to the company from Gary Pritchard, Vice President, Manufacturing, GE Advanced Materials, Silicones. Students also had the opportunity to talk one-on-one with employees in various functions including finance, information technology, chemistry and engineering. Junior Achievement has been contributing to business education of young people since 1919. Its goal has always been to bridge the gap between successful professionals and young people to lead them on the right path. At mid morning, students went off to spend time "shadowing" their GE Advanced Materials, Silicones hosts. Students interested in chemistry, science, engineering and computers got a first hand look at real-life job situations at GE Silicones. At noon, the students and mentors joined together for a pizza luncheon where Ben Patrignani, Process Technician, gave a product demonstration.
